How far a final price can climb above the quote
THE ONE THING TO KNOW BEFORE YOU BOOK
Most sports car shipping companies give you a quote, then post your car on a carrier board where drivers bid on the job. If no driver takes it at that price, the number goes up. Move.org's research found the final price can end up 25% above the original quote. On a $1,342 enclosed job, that's about $335 you didn't plan for. That gap is what this guide is about. Low-clearance vehicle transport makes it worse, because fewer trailers can load a car that sits that low, and that leaves you less room to push back.

WHAT YOU'LL LIKELY PAY
These ranges come from SAKAEM Logistics' 2026 market pricing for enclosed exotic car shipping cost. They're broker ranges, not final invoices, so treat them as the floor and ceiling you should expect to see. The average hides a wide spread. Where your car lands depends on distance, season, ground clearance, and how flexible your pickup date is. If your car sits under about 4 inches off the ground, plan for the top of each range. Check any quote against these enclosed auto transport rates before you sign.

HELP US GET THIS RIGHT
What Did You Pay to Ship Your Sports Car?
The prices above come from broker quotes, and quotes aren't invoices. Tell us what you paid for enclosed sports car shipping, and your number goes into the next update.
WHY PRICES VARY
Ground Clearance and Loading Equipment
A low car can't climb a standard ramp without scraping its splitter. Anything under about 4 inches of clearance needs a liftgate trailer, which lifts the car level instead of tilting it up a ramp. Fewer trucks carry that equipment, so the price goes up. Ask every company how they load a low car. If they hesitate, keep shopping.
Open vs Enclosed Car Shipping
For most owners, this is the biggest choice. Move.org's quote data puts enclosed at $1,342 on average, against $914 for open. That's about 47% more. SAKAEM puts the gap at 50–60% on the same miles. Open car shipping works fine for a daily-driven sports sedan. For anything rare, low, or freshly detailed, enclosed vehicle shipping keeps debris and weather off the paint. If you go open, ask for top-loading car transport. A top-deck spot means no car is parked above yours, dripping fluids onto it.
Distance and Pickup Location
Longer trips cost more in total but less per mile. Using SAKAEM's ranges, a 270-mile Los Angeles to Las Vegas run works out to about $2.60–$4.10 per mile. A 2,750-mile Miami to Los Angeles trip drops to about $0.80–$1.15. Location matters too. Door-to-door sports car shipping from a rural address costs more, because fewer drivers run those roads. Meeting the truck at a big lot near the highway can bring your quote down.
Season and Booking Window
Prices climb during the spring, summer, and early fall moving seasons. Enclosed trucks fill up fastest during snowbird season and big auction weeks like Monterey Car Week and Scottsdale. Book 2–3 weeks ahead for a normal move, and 4 weeks or more around those peaks. A rush job costs more, because you're paying for whichever truck happens to be free.
Insurance Limits and Who You Book With
This is where cheap quotes hide risk. Enclosed carriers hold cargo policies from $100,000 to $1 million, and $250,000 is typical. That limit covers the whole load, not just your car. If your car shares a trailer with 3 others worth just as much, that car shipping insurance coverage won't stretch far. Ask for the certificate of insurance, and look up the carrier's DOT number on FMCSA's SAFER system. Move.org found final prices can climb 25% above the quote when the company doesn't guarantee it, so get the price locked in writing.
WHEN TO SHIP
SUMMER (JUN–AUG)
+20–35%
Peak demand. Book 3–5 weeks ahead. Southwest heat makes enclosed the safer pick for a high-value car.
FALL (OCT–NOV)
+15–25%
Snowbird rush on southbound routes. Shipping north in this window runs 10–15% below average.
WINTER (DEC–EARLY JAN)
−15–20%
Cheapest window of the year. Watch for road salt and weather surcharges on northern routes.
LATE APR–MAY
Near average
Best window for sports cars. Mild weather on most routes, and enclosed carriers aren't booked up by snowbirds or summer movers. Late September works too.
